A rigid stainless rule graduated on four edges — inches in 1/32 and 1/64, millimetres in 1 and 0.5. Photo-etched rather than printed, so the lines are cut into the steel and will still be there when the rule is older than you are.
Rigid rather than flexible on purpose. A flexible rule is better for wrapping a curve; a rigid one is better for everything else, including being used as a short straightedge to check a surface for wind.
The end is square and unchamfered so you can register it against a shoulder and read from zero rather than from the one-inch line.

Care
- Wipe with an oiled cloth occasionally; the etched lines hold oil and stay legible.
- Store flat or hanging. A rule stored loose in a drawer gets bent, and a bent rule is scrap.
- Do not use it as a scraper or a screwdriver — a nicked edge ruins it as a straightedge.
Cautions
- Not a certified or traceable measuring instrument. There is no calibration certificate and it is not for metrology or inspection sign-off.
- Not a cutting guide for a sharp knife — a blade will bite the edge and spoil it. Use a proper cutting straightedge.
- Not hardened along the edge for use as a scraper.
