Before you order
- Are these rated for structural or lifting work?
- No. The fastener assortments are general-purpose hardware and are not rated for overhead lifting, rigging, towing, or any structural or load-bearing application. Those need certified, individually traceable hardware supplied with a certificate, which this is not — and we publish no proof load or torque figures, because we do not have certificates behind them. A number without a certificate is worse than no number, because someone will design against it.
- Can I use the brass fittings for drinking water?
- No. Every brass fitting here is sold for workshop, display and low-pressure use, and none of it is certified for potable drinking water — nor for gas, steam, fuel, hydraulics, or compressed air above 8 bar. Potable water needs certified fittings installed to your local code, in most places by a licensed plumber. This is stated on each fitting's page as well as here.
- Metric or imperial?
- The bolt, socket cap and washer assortments are metric, and the wrench set is metric — 8 to 19 mm. The brass wood screws are imperial gauge sizes, and the brass fittings are BSP and hose thread. Every product page states exactly which, because a 13 mm is not a 1/2" and the difference will cost you a rounded nut.
- What grade is the steel?
- The bolt assortment is medium-carbon steel with a clear zinc electroplate. The socket cap screws are A2 (AISI 304) austenitic stainless. The wrenches and adjustable spanner are drop-forged chrome-vanadium, through-hardened. Each product page states the grade rather than just saying 'steel'.
- Are there reviews?
- Not yet, and we would rather say so than invent them. This is a new shop. When there are real reviews from real customers they will appear here, attributed. In the meantime the product pages carry the full specification, which is more useful than a star rating anyway.
Payment
- What will appear on my card statement?
- OLYMPEX. If you do not recognise a charge, please email or call us before disputing it with your bank — we can identify an order from the amount and the last four digits of the card in a few minutes, which is far faster than a dispute.
- What currency am I charged in?
- All prices are shown and charged in US Dollars (USD). If your card is issued outside the United States your bank may add its own conversion fee, which we do not see and do not receive.
- Is my card safe on this site?
- The card fields at checkout are hosted by our PCI-DSS Level 1 certified payment provider and displayed inside the page, so what you type goes directly to them and never touches our servers. We receive a token, the last four digits, the brand and the issuing country — that is all the card information that exists on our side. The payment security page explains it in full.
- Why was I asked to verify the payment with my bank?
- That is 3-D Secure, an additional check run by your bank rather than by us. It is more likely on higher-value orders and on a card being used at a new shop. Complete the step in the window that opens — closing it leaves the order unpaid.
- Is there a subscription or a recurring charge?
- No. There is no subscription, no membership, no auto-renewal and no recurring charge of any kind on this site. Every order is a single purchase, charged once.
Shipping
- What does shipping cost and how long does it take?
- Standard shipping is a flat $8.00, free over $75, delivering in 3–5 business days from dispatch. Express is a flat $22.00 and delivers in 2 business days. We pack once a day on business days.
- Is there a surcharge on the heavy items?
- No. The bench vice is nearly twelve kilos and ships on the same flat rate as a packet of washers. There is no weight surcharge and no oversize fee at checkout.
- Where do you ship?
- Within the United States only, including Alaska and Hawaii. We do not ship internationally at this time. We can ship small parts to a PO box, but not the vice or the parts drawers — the carrier will not take either to a box address, and we will email you for a street address rather than silently cancelling.
- Will an assortment arrive still sorted?
- Yes — that is the point of the packing. Assortments ship in their compartmented trays inside a fitted carton so the sizes stay separated in transit. An assortment that arrives mixed is useless, and it is the most common way this category gets packed badly.
After it arrives
- My count is short.
- Tell us and we will make it up or refund the difference. We take your word on a short count — we are not going to ask you to photograph two hundred washers. Email us within 14 days of delivery with your order number.
- Can I return something I simply do not want?
- Yes, within 30 days of delivery, for any reason or none, as long as it is unused and in its original packaging. Email us and we will send a prepaid label. There is no restocking fee. An assortment or kit has to come back complete — we cannot restock a 120-piece bolt assortment that is missing the M8s.
- A part failed. Is it covered?
- If it failed inside what it was sold for, yes, completely — and we would like to know, because that is a supplier problem we need to chase. If it failed because it was used outside the limits published on its page, it is not covered. If the page did not make a limit clear enough, say so; that is our failure and we will treat it as one.
- The brass has gone brown.
- That is unlacquered brass doing what unlacquered brass does, and it is stated on every brass product page. It arrives bright and darkens to a warm brown over a few weeks. It is not tarnish, not a defect, and it cannot be prevented without lacquering — which would then chip. Polish it back if you like, but it is a job with no end.
- How long does a refund take?
- We process it within 5 business days of a return reaching us, or 2 business days of agreeing a damage or shortage claim. Card networks then take a further 3 to 10 days to post it to your statement, which is outside our control and varies by issuer. Refunds always go back to the card that paid.
